Nearly everyone in the world has heard about the recent incident on United Flight #3411 where United had accidentally overbooked the flight. They first asked if anyone would volunteer to leave the flight for a different one with a prepaid ticket. When no one volunteered, police for United forcefully removed a 60 year old doctor from Elizabethtown, KY. The video is both shocking and horrifying. If you aren’t familiar with the story, here is a link- https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/10/business/united-flight-passenger-dragged.html?_r=0

I bring up this article and incident because it made me think: What if there was no social media? What would have come of this debacle if there was no way to spread the video. Social media gets a bad rap all the time but there are so many positives to it as well. When a horrible incident like this takes place, anyone and everyone has some sort of platform to share videos, stories, or other personal experiences from the incident. It allows other people to share and spread these stories and help them reach news outlets and let people see the actions that have transpired. If there was no social media this would not be a story. Corporations would bury stories like this. However, with social media, the average person can share any video they take of an incident and it helps to show the world what is happening and keep people connected easily. Social media really is a super cool thing that connects the world and can help hold people accountable for horrible actions.
