While writing this, I am currently listening to a song in a language that I am just now starting to learn. I am able to learn a different language using online tools. I am heavily immersed in cultures different than my own, cultures that I would not be aware of if it were not for social media. Social media has become a bridge between cultures and languages, and what a bridge it is.

Social media is significant in today’s society. Some would even go so far as it to say it is vital. YouTube and Twitter specifically serve as tools to bridge the gap between seas, as you can upload content from almost anywhere in the world. This is important to note. For example, the rise of Korean pop music internationally really took off in 2012 when Psy’s Gangnam Style went viral. Ever since then, it has grown, with the popular group BTS (pictured above) leading the way. BTS has been able to cross boundaries with their music, and social media is a main contributing factor. With multiple social networking accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, they are constantly uploading content for their fans to both enjoy, consume, and share. With their fans spreading the videos, tweets, posts, etc., more and more people see these posts, their impressions growing by the second.

You see, social media is a connecting platform. Without its users, it would only be useless. It would be a blank canvas, as its users are the artists. People from all around the world can connect with social media. New music genres can be discovered, new cultures can be learned, new international friends can be made, and even more can be accomplished with social media as a tool. Social media is an amazing thing, and I truly hope it continues to close the distance between such barriers.
