1. “dead girl in the pool.” by girl in red

My love of surrealism and alternative music comes together in this one song as girl in red sings about finding her own dead body in a swimming pool the morning after a party.

Marie Ulven shows off a range of her vocal talents in this song starting with a somber tenor and then later getting into an almost yell.

2. “Freaking Me Out” by Ava Max

Ava Max has seen a mildly successful career since the release of her first song in 2013 “Take Away the Pain.”

Now, this song is exactly what you would expect from a pop song that doesn’t challenge anything about the genre; however, it is still an extremely fun song that equates falling in love to being in a haunted house.

3. “Bring it on Back” by Pink Royal

This song is nothing new, however, it is still a great song. The band calls there sound “groove pop,” but I would call it more alt-pop rock.

Released back in 2017, this song is about a man who says that he will wait for his love for as long as it takes. The meaning is nothing special, but the real uniqueness of this song is the lead vocals that stand out from popular pop-rock bands. The song can be heard here.

4. “House a Habit” by We are the Guests

This group released their debut song in “House a Habit,” an artful folk song that includes that use of mandolin, keys, and even some post-production drums.

This song has sweeping and beautiful movements that tell the story of a woman wanting to stay with a man she loves. It is a great start to this band’s discography which currently only has two songs. I cannot wait to see what comes from them next.
