Why am I still such a huge fan of Skrillex after all of these years? Oh yeah, it is because he releases music like this. With the help of his Dog Blood co-producer Boys Noize and recent VMA award winner Ty Dolla $ign, Skrillex released this power anthem.

This is the third song that Skrillex has put out with Ty Dolla $ign this year. This follows the July release of their joint remix of Lykki Li’s “Two Nights” and the August release of “Malokera,” where they teamed up with MC Lan, TroyBoi, and Ludmilla.

This also follows the Turn Off the Lights EP that Dog Blood (Skrillex and Boys Noize’s collaboration group) released in May of this year after an almost 6-year hiatus. It is unclear why this song was released with their separate names instead of the collaboration name that was used on that album and other works that they have done together.

As for the meaning of the song, it appears to be about a man who supported a girl that he loves but “late in the midnight hour” she chose someone else to go home with. But really, the song is meant to be a driving, house song with thick drums and rapid beats.

This style of music is nothing new to the Dog Blood duo and can be heard through their discography. The samples in the song include Cassie’s “Long Way 2 Go” and City Girl’s “Act Up.”

All in all, this song does what it sets out to do, make your blood pump and make you want to dance. The meaning is nothing new but the samples are clever and well used. So ultimately, it is a pretty decent song to add to the repertoire to all involved with its production.

I look forward to what all three of the artists listed on the track come up with and hopefully Dog Blood will be back with a new EP soon.
