Morehouse College Hump Wednesday : September 20th

G Herbo adds to list of suprise performances at Morehouse’s weekly party

--

This week’s Hump Wednesday was an eventful spectacle. Multiple artists came out to perform at the second hump Wednesday of the 2018–19 school year. Prior to the festivities, word spread around campus of the second star-studded Chicago influenced hump Wednesday lineup which included Kodie Shane, Flipp Dinero, Zoey Dollaz, and headliner, G Herbo. The night started off around 6pm on the field in front of Sale Hal which is not usually where Hump Wednesday festivities are held. The location change from in front of Kilgore to in front of Sale on the open field was a change for the better. Not only did it give students more space, but it gave performers an actual stage to move around on, and more space to operate. The location change gave this Hump Wednesday more of a concert feel and a more organized approach. Along with the location change there were many other festivities included, like an inflatable basketball game, a football game, and even a cotton candy stand, providing a carnival feel.

Epic Records was on heavy rotation, as this hump Wednesday featured three artists from the label. Zoey Dollaz started off the night with an electric performance while the crowd was still entering, and following Dollaz, was up and coming Atlanta rapper/singer and Epic Records artist, Kodie Shane. Zoey Dollaz is signed to Epic Records. However, many may know him from his affiliation with FBG (Freeband Gang), and Future. Dollaz is definitely on the comeup, as he is a fresh sign to Future’s label. However, he was still able to get the crowd going and get some energy going. Kodie Shane might have brought the most energy out of the bunch that preceded G Herbo. Shane performed multiple songs jumping up and down, dancing, and also interacting with the crowd many times throughout her performance. Kodie Shane gained the majority of her notoriety for being a member of the group “Sailing Team”, Lil Yachty’s rap group. The last artist to come out before G Herbo was Brooklyn native, Flipp Dinero. Unlike Shane, Flipp Dinero only performed one song. However, the one song Dinero performed, “Leave Me Alone”, was one of the biggest hits of the Summer and has over 8 million views on YouTube. Flipp Dinero, the 21-year old Brooklyn Native made some noise with singles “I do” and “Running up Bands”. However, none of his singles caught fire like “Leave Me Alone”, which was released in 2018.

Closing out the night was G Herbo, the 22-year-old Chicago native, that the majority of the crowd came to see. Herbo just recently released his album, “Swervo,” which entered at number 21 on Billboard. The album had many hits, but G Herbo only performed one song off the album, while premiering a new song. G Herbo instantly electrified the crowd, coming out to hit song, “I Like.” off of his album “Humble Beast.” Herbo had the entire crowd rocking all night as he transitioned from song to song, ending with his biggest hit currently, “Swervo.” The entire AUC showed G Herbo a lot of love throughout his performance and he returned with energy. Hump Wednesday for this school year has not disappointed, with the first hump Wednesday featuring major up and coming artists, Gunna and Young Nudy. It will be hard to top these names, but not impossible.
