Nicki, What’s Good?

Who doesn’t love a good Hip-Hop beef to start out a new year? Unless you live under a rock, it is not news that Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma are beefing over the “Queen of Rap” title. Remy’s incarceration derailed her plan of takeover and Nicki took advantage of her absence, leaving a trail of fallen female MCs in her path — Lil Kim, Eve, Iggy Azalea, etc. Apparently, Nicki’s success has lead Remy to believe that all of her foe’s hits subtly threw shade.

When Nicki released the Gucci Mane-assisted track “Make Love,” she rapped lines about someone being a “Nokia” and “tryin to win a gunfight with a bunch of knives.” Now whether Nicki is referring to Remy or not is questionable, but their recent past is telling. In 2007, Nicki rapped “tell that b*tch with the crown to run it like Chris Brown” on the Terror Squad-assisted track “Dirty Money.” Because her lines were on a track that featured Terror Squad, a group of which Remy is affiliated with, she had full right to take offense.

But Nicki isn’t ready for this type of fight; this isn’t Miley Cyrus. While Remy sat in jail, Nicki rose to fame, winning “plaques” as she describes in “Make Love.” With those awards activated a switch in Nicki’s career and the way she made music. Overnight, Nicki went from guest appearance on Chicago drill music bangers like “Chiraq” to making club anthems such as “Pound the Alarm” as well as songs with Ariana Grande. She went from Queens to Hollywood while Remy stayed underground.

Remy’s response to Nicki in “Shether” tells it all. The song is an downright disrespectful in which all of Nicki’s dirty laundry is aired: from relationships to her brother’s pedophilia allegations to even her unique body image. This is the type of track that could dead any rapper and it doesn’t help that Remy sounds like The Big Bad Wolf.

Nicki has not responded musically, even though her Instagram profile has been carefully watched as she posted a ballad from Beyoncé praising her and images of her working. Perhaps, she is focusing on the plaques that Remy can’t seem to obtain; Nicki said Remy was not even in her “tax brack.” Now the world must wait, albeit impatiently, for Nicki to make some type of vocal response.

Sadly, however, she will not. As Remy prepares for her second diss track that allegedly appears to be dropped in March, Nicki will still be making top charting hits on her journey to rap-pop superstardom. She is no longer Nicki from Queens and will not be in anybody’s studio spitting hate rhymes and trying to fight for the spotlight that is obviously trained on her.

Nicki better be careful though; Remy is actually mad.
