The King Rejoices in Your Strength

In this world, kings are extolled. They are envied (until, perhaps, you step into their shoes). But king David, a psalmist at heart, knew his place in the kingdom. He glorified the name of the Lord, knowing that God must become greater, and he had to become less.

“How the king rejoices in your strength, O Lord! He shouts with joy because you give him victory.” (Psalm 21: 1) — the king puts his trust in the Lord and what God has done for him, and continually does for him.

He recognises that the Lord, the true king, is the one who has granted him success, victory, honour, eternal blessings, the joy of His presence. (Psalm 21: 3–6)

Ultimately, it is not the strength of the king that keeps him from stumbling —for it’s not by might nor by power — it’s the “unfailing love” of the Lord.

“The unfailing love of the Most High will keep him from stumbling.” ~ Psalm 21: 7

In what area of your life do you need to be a king (or queen) today? How do you feel about being in that position? Proud? Afraid? Relax in the love of God and trust in Him alone as the source of your strength and joy. His unfailing love will keep you from stumbling.
