A life highlight was when my dad took me to watch the Yankees play an exhibition game against the Denver Bears in 1964. I wrote about that in Beyond Heart Mountain. It was the first time I met a Black guy.

The role of elders has changed since the advent of the internet. It used to be that the older members of a family or community were the keepers of wisdom and stories of their ancestors. Their main job was to record that information or pass down the tales to the younger folks.

Since I have no heirs apparent, there’s nobody to take my stuff or learn the stories behind…
