The toughest road,
when you’ve finished traversing it —
feet bloodied,
legs stiff,
obstacles overcome —
will be how you’ll recount it,
satisfied to have followed it to the end.

You’ll have learned the potent silence
while they insult you,
strike you with words of steel,
consume you to thieve your vital energy,
and return triumphant to their throne of sorrow.

Every arduous path will seem slight, after;
you’ll not let obstacles astray you,
your feet will move with certainty,
muscles accustomed to fatigue.

The heart,
used to silence,
waiting for another heart
to be touched by compassion.
