Stuck typewriter keys

One Day on HGTV

By Alan O’Hashi, Morning Musing

It was quite a stroke of luck that after the Amber Alert debacle and the stolen vehicle, that the car thief left us two tickets to the big playoff game in Denver. Preston and I decided to take Monday off and make a day of it. Our code writers can take care of the app project.

We like to browse around the junk stores on South Broadway and made our way down. Parking was no problem.

“Let’s check out that place,” Preston said. There was a sign in the window that caught his eye. “They’re having a lunchtime ‘Type-In.’” He went inside and saw a long table with eight manual typewriters set up.

“That’s interesting,” I said while examining the ancient word processors. “My mom had one of these desktop Olympia machines.”

Preston sat down in front of an old Smith-Corona portable. “Do you know how to operate that thing?” the store proprietor said. “We hold these events over lunch each day. You’d be surprised at the number of people we attract.”

Before we knew it, the place started to fill up. There was a line to get onto one of the machines. A table to the side was set up where others sat and enjoyed their lunch. It was a very collegial group.
