Everyone in Charlie’s class sat at their desks in the morning. Charlie’s teacher checked to see if everyone had done their homework.

Peter, Ken, Sally and the other children had all done their homework. Charlie’s teacher noticed there wasn’t any book on Charlie’s desk. He asked him if he had done his homework.

Charlie said yes, but his teacher told Charlie to tell him the truth, as he couldn’t see any evidence of it. He told the teacher that a spaceman had come and taken it his book back with him to his planet.

As the class was about to erupt in laughter, the teacher raised his hand, resulting in pin-drop silence. Once again, Charlie’s teacher asked him to tell the truth.

Charlie said he felt last night was the first time a spaceman traveled from another planet to Earth. Everyone in the class laughed this time, despite the teacher’s attempts to control the students.

Charlie’s teacher said it was OK if he hadn’t done his homework as long as he admitted it and told the truth. But, once again, Charlie said that he had done his homework and it was the spaceman who took it away. The spaceman should be the one apologizing.

Charlie’s teacher said he wouldn’t send him to detention, but he should do his homework next time and not create things out of the figment of his imagination. Then Charlie explained: in the middle of the night, he saw a spaceman outside his window. He then pointed his special gloved hand towards his study table. A laser came out and pulled his exercise book through the window without the window breaking.

Then the bell rang for lunch time and everyone ran out. Everyone, including the teacher, forgot about the conversation he and Charlie had once class resumed after lunchtime.

That afternoon, everyone had new homework from the teacher. After school finished, Charlie walked home while thinking of the spaceman. A few of his classmates congratulated Charlie on his not doing the homework, spaceman excuse-trick working. He told them he was actually telling the truth.

Once in his yard, he looked up at the sky as if looking for something.

After having a sandwich and a glass of juice, Charlie did his homework. During dinner, he told his family of the spaceman taking his homework, but they were busy watching the television.

The next day, Charlie’s teacher checked everyone’s homework. Strangely, no one had done it. And when asked why, they all said the same thing, a spaceman had come and taken it.

No, class, just because Charlie got away with that excuse yesterday doesn’t mean you get to do it too. I think everyone will get detention today and tell that to the spaceman too, Charlie’s teacher said.

Then Charlie’s teacher got a call from his daughter’s teacher. The teacher said that his daughter said her homework was taken away by a spaceman as well.

The teacher laughed and did not know what to do. Soon, there was a national announcement for everyone to switch on their radios, televisions, phones and computers.

What had happened was that thousands of spacemen had come and taken away everyone’s homework back to their planet. They wanted to show the children on their planet that Earth children were good homework-doing students because the children on that planet had never heard of the word homework.

Now, in the spaceman’s planet, homework was introduced. All the children in the spaceman’s planet started doing homework. Finally, they were becoming better students. Everyone’s homework on Earth was now returned.

Oh, yes, you were right, the spaceman did take your homework, Charlie, his teacher said.

The end.
