The Chicago Bears improved to 3–5 overall and 3–0 vs. the AFC West after a 22–19 win over the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football.

With the way this NFL season has gone, it was tough to expect an intriguing Monday night matchup between two losing teams. But last night, that’s what the Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers gave us.

The 2–6 Chargers hosted the 2–5 Bears in primetime in a battle with marginal relevance up for grabs, and in the end, it was Jay Cutler’s squad that came out on top.

Cutler threw for 345 yards on 40 attempts, connecting for two touchdowns while throwing an interception. Alshon Jeffrey accumulated 151 of those yards — including a 47-yard grab — while tight ends Martellus Bennett and Zach Miller each hauled in a touchdown catch.

In Matt Forte’s absence, Jeremy Langford caught three of his four targets for 70 yards and ran 72 more.

The Chargers ran for only 77 yards between three backs, led by Danny Woodhead’s 33 yards on six carries. Woodhead also led the team in receiving with 78 yards and a score, while Antonio Gates hauled in six passes for 69 yards and Stevie Johnson went for 68 yards over seven receptions.

After holding a 16–7 lead heading into the final quarter, San Diego allowed a pair of Chicago touchdowns, blowing the lead and eventually the game. Miller hauled in the winning score in the final minutes on an impressive one-handed grab over the middle.

All told, Philip Rivers threw for 280 yards and a touchdown without throwing a pick — but his one-game legacy will live on in Internet land forever.

Now 3–5, the Bears travel to St. Louis for a bout with the Rams on Sunday. The Chargers, now 2–7, have a lot to figure out during the bye week.
