Everyone loves a winner!

Freelance writer Alex Riley won Feature of the year (specialist) at the Association of British Science Writers’ Awards on 28 May 2019 in London.

The winning piece was How a wooden bench in Zimbabwe is starting a revolution in mental health, which looks at the work of psychiatrist Dixon Chibanda and a team of community grandmothers in treating depression.

Of the story, the judges said: “Beautifully written with strong characters, full of hope and constantly surprising.”
