March 15, 2017 Schiff Nunes House Intelligence Press Briefing

Schiff very interested in Trump Russia connections, “… concerns me a great deal”; Nunes not willing to subpoena testimony yet

The Press Briefing took place today in the House basement and was open to the public. It lasted approximately 35 minutes with both Schiff and Nunes taking turns responding to reporters. The full briefing, detailing the current state of the 115th U.S. Congress’s House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence’s Russian Election Interference Investigation is available here at C-Span.

Schiff discusses Roger Stone as link between Trump and Assange and as a Russian Intelligence asset used by the cut-out Guccifer 2.0, a persona created by Apt28, also referred to as “Fancy Bear” as a nickname, by cyber-security experts for the computer server associated with the DCCC hack, which has been linked to Trump surrogates and his campaign, showing an unusually high level of suspicious and nefarious activity between the two.

The ‘Fancy’ in “Fancy Bear” is a reference to a song, “Fancy” by the female-rapper Iggy Azalea, formerly dating high-profile LA Laker Nick Young, aka Swaggy P, a lyric of which turned up in the code. The “Bear” is simply a reference to Russia. Azalea did not respond to inquiries as to whether or not she was, indeed, a Russian spy. The video for the song, above, was greeted mildly by critics but earned a somewhat cult following after the artist was brought to task, called out on the rug, in a Tweet storm, for misuse of cultural appropriation of rap as an African-American art form, by Q-Tip of the seminal hip-hop group Tribe Called Quest. It heavily references the 1995 movie “Clueless” starring Alicia Silverstone.

Schiff: With respect to Roger Stone, we have a U.S. person affiliated with the [2016 Trump presidential] campaign who has now said publicly that he had communications- I think, first he said, with Julian Assange and then he said after that with a intermediary to Mr. Assange, or WikiLeaks. And has now acknowledged having communication with Guccifer 2.0, which the Intelligence Community views as, a… essentially a Russian cut-out. And obviously these two platforms were used to publish documents damaging to Secretary Clinton and helpful to Donald Trump.

So, I tell you, that concerns me a great deal. Because you have someone affiliated with the campaign having direct communication with two of the outlets, apparently during the campaign and in one case, as I recall, Mr. Stone predicted that John Podesta’s time in the barrel would come. So, while Mr. Stone has said that he could not have predicted the DNC hack before it happened, he apparently did predict that John Podesta would be “in the barrel.” So, I think it does beg a lot of questions, that I would certainly like answered.
