I’m moving to Substack
…to start a newsletter called The Waves. Please follow me…
Hi everyone, thanks for following me here on Medium. This is going to be the last post of Mosquito Ridge, my infrequent blog and essay publication here. I’ve loved coolMedium’s graphic design but…
I am now moving everything that’s not commissioned by the mainstream media over to a newsletter a Substack. Click here to read the first post.
I’ll still be writing my weekly column for the New Statesman, and irregular contributions to The Guardian, Freitag, Le Monde Diplomatique, the iPaper, Vice and others.
Here’s why I am doing this: building an email list gives me direct access to an audience, not mediated by somebody else’s algorithm.
And it will let me charge regular subscriptions for those who want to support my work.
I will only be turning the paid subscription button for about half the content — and only once the British general election is finished on 12 December. So head over to The Waves to get regular updates for free.
Mosquito Ridge was named after the British objective at the battle of Brunete in the Spanish Civil War. I started it in 2015 because I had a hunch we were headed towards a repeat of the 1930s.
Nearly five years on, in my book Clear Bright Future, I describe a world in which experiences like the one pictured (on Whitehall, 7 September 2019) are normalised for left and progressive journalists.
Through The Waves I am going to be doing comment, analysis, insight and reportage on the waves of change that are sweeping the world:
- The breakdown of the neoliberal model
- The evaporation of support for democracy and the rule of law
- The rise of exponential technologies and the postcapitalism agenda
- The fight for a zero carbon world
Plus of course the waves of resistance, that are pulsing way stronger now than when I wrote Why It’s Kicking Off Everywhere.
I will leave the archives of Mosquito Ridge here. At time of writing the publication has 9,079 followers, while 42,000 of you are following me as a creator here. Once again thank you!
Please support me if you can by signing up now to my mailing list over at The Waves. And tell your friends.
P.S. I still love Medium and I’m going to be clapping, following and commenting here.
