You know what day it is — Friiiiiiday which means we are back with more exciting design trends, and inspiration that caught our teams eyes. Here are our 6 hot takes and inspiration for the week!

1. San Francisco Symphony

The San Francisco Symphony (SFS) is celebrating its 111th anniversary this season, with the appointment of Esa-Pekka Salonen as its new musical director. Collins was commissioned to create a new logo and typeface for the orchestra. Dinamo’s ABC Arizona Serif typeface was chosen for its ‘modern-meets-Renaissance freshness’ and variable-customisable font technology.

2. Inspired Alternative Logos

Rafael Serra, aka FAEL a Type Designer and Lettering Artist based in Portotugal creates vintage-inspired alternative logos for some of the world’s most recognisable brands.

3. King Charles III’s New Cypher Revealed

The new cypher for Britain’s King Charles has been revealed by Buckingham Palace. The cypher — the sovereign’s monogram — will appear on government buildings and red mail pillar boxes. It consists of the initials ‘C’ and ‘R’ — representing Charles’s name and “Rex”, the Latin for king — alongside a depiction of the crown.

4. The WikiReader Lives On

A ragtag community is keeping WikiReader, a Wikipedia gadget, alive. WikiReader was a project to deliver an offline, text-only version of Wikipedia on a mobile device and though the WikiReader was not created by Wikipedia, the nonprofit Wikimedia Foundation maintains the Wikipedia device.

5. Studio Ghibli’s Filmography

Studio Ghibli, a renowned Japanese film studio co-founded by animator Hayao Miyazaki creates complex visual stories about human-nature relationships that transcend barriers of culture or age. Studio Ghibli’s masterful use of design story telling enables designers to create artifacts that not only look and feel beautiful but also transmit a certain message, idea, or philosophy, which is what elevates good design to a masterpiece.

6. TBD Destigmatizing Sexual Health

TBD Health, an STI testing brand is Destigmatizing sexual health by showing that it isn’t the taboo it once was. TBD Health is taking a fresh new approach with at-home testing and the company has been offering a five-panel “check yourself out” kit for at-home testing. Something that you’ll also notice on the site is the presence of a “Learn” button. In addition to purchasing STI testing kits (among other health testing kits), this link sends visitors to the company’s blog with content reviewed by medical professionals.
