Finding a Cause in Kassy’s Kause
Hey All!
My name is Cilla (short for Priscilla) and I have recently joined the blogging world! I am so overjoyed with excited sharing apart of my life journey with some of you parents to-be, expecting parents and mommy’s and daddy’s. I am excited to explain why I began my blog and the non-profit organization my mother and I started in my sisters name. It is where we draw our love and passion to pursue making our Kause a well-known case and organization. So with no further ado I’m going to jump in where it all started…
March 22nd 2015, the worst day of my life. I lost my little sister. Hearing that you lost your sister at 21 years of age is nothing short of an out of body experience. You convince yourself what you heard was wrong, something completely different was said. The entire day after getting the news I had thoughts of the EMT or the hospital calling to say they revived her, even picturing her walking through the front doors of my parents house, hoping and praying for a miracle.
You never think tragedy will strike your family, the worst part is figuring out how to move forward. How are you going to change something so awful into a positive. I had no idea. Luckily for me, my mother did. She was a prime example off putting big girl panties on and doing something.
We lost Kassy during her first pregnancy. She was so excited, of all my siblings we were so excited for her to have a baby. She had been the only one to talk about wanting to become a mom as a child. I knew how amazing it would be for her, especially after seeing her as an Aunty to my little ones. She was like another mom and they loved her so much.
When receiving Kassy’s phone after her passing we saw that she wasn’t feeling right that night. She had been researching the emotions she was feeling. She searched the nearest hospital and told her husband she was leaving to be seen.
Seeing that on her phone was really weird. Kassy was the girl who always had it together, she knew what she was going to do, when she was doing to do it and how it was going to happen. She always had everything planned and never let people’s opinions change what she had set out to do.
It took a lot of research online to discover what may have happened and why she was feeling the way she did. I eventually came across Perinatal Depression, it explained the different stages of depression associated with pregnancy. I took what I found to my mom and we began to dig in.
I was shocked! After two pregnancies of my own I had never heard of Perinatal Depression, only Postpartum. My mom and I came to learned is often overlooked during pregnancies and we felt obligated to take action. There is not enough resources available to the public, especially to pregnant women. After we began talking about this type of depression mommies opened up to share their story with us, how they struggled with their feelings and having no where to turn too.
So my mom did what any loving strong mommy does, she opened up a non-profit organization called Kassy’s Kause . Our mission is to bring awareness to Perinatal Depression and Anxiety. In no way was this easy but my God’s Love, Grace and the Beautiful people he brought to us to help support and encouraged us we did it! We continue to learn more and we love everyone who has been behind us, pushing us along bringing the issue to light.
There’s so much left to learn about mental illness. Everyone knows someone who is pregnant, going to be pregnant or is expecting themselves.
