Birds of a feather flock together. Which leads to the question, why should we be very careful of the company that we keep? Ehh, while we’re at it, which came first — the chicken or the egg?

Spoiler: Modern science has done its homework on the subject.

Thank god that’s settled, thank god thats settled, The Aviator settled, Leonardo DiCaprio Aviator,

Back on topic.

Did the said birds flock together at once or did they come together and get filtered out by interests and habits? Hence the chicken/egg thing.

A person’s success or failure is often determined by the relationships that they hold. If you have ambitions of going and doing outdoor activities, but the people you associate with would rather stay home and watch TV, then those relationships are holding you back.

Conversely, if you are trying to crack down on the studying and most of the people you hang with want to go out and party the night away and “can’t go without you”, they are pulling you from your focus.

Avelo Roy of the Millionaire Mindset Blog Has some simple advise of who we should associate with.

The concept is quite simple. We surround ourselves with role models.

  • If you hang around five confident people, you will be the sixth.
  • If you hang around five millionaires, you will be the sixth.
  • If you hang around five broke people, you will be the sixth.

So it stands to reason that we should find the best role models we can. Always try to seek out those who are operating on a higher level that we are so that we can strive to reach and emulate.

The naysayers often like to repeat the axiom that it’s not what you know, but who you know, and that success is only brought by influence and privilege.

They may actually be partially correct. Perhaps it should read more like — It’s all about who you know and what you know now that brings success.

So be mindful of where you put yourself and what energies you absorb. They will make the difference between your successes and failures.
