Earning respect from a humble background

Should I hide or reveal my true self?

Contrary to what we belief that if people know you are from a humble (read: poor) background, they will not respect you,

I have learnt from experience that it can actually earn you MORE respect.

Who will you respect more?

Sam who grew from a 1 room apartment in a slum and later became a millionaire...

Or Jim who always had everything he wished for and is a millionaire too?

We don't respect people based on where they come from but for who they are when we meet them.

Where you come from becomes irrelevant when you have something needed to offer.

So the real big deal is not about hiding your background to gain respect, but about becoming who people can respect NOW.

Yes, some people can respect you from where you come from but that respect is shortlived.

If what you ARE currently no longer commands respect, they will forget where you come from.

Who respects a Senator's daughter that insults everyone?🙃

Respect comes MORE from what you are NOW!

On the other hand, it is still true that after you have worked on yourself and become valuable, some people will still disrespect you for your background,

But I'm not sure that's the kind of people's respect you want to earn.

There's nothing to hide ❤️
