The trick is starting the night before.

I am sitting here in my quiet office at my desk. It is 6 am, the birds are still sleeping, and the sun has not come up yet. I have been awake since 4 am.

If you asked me last month to wake up at 4 am to get my day started, I would have emphatically answered, “Hell no!”

Like most people would say, “I am a night person, my mind wakes up late in the evening and I can’t get to bed earlier enough.”

I too believed the same thing about myself. But luck had it that I had a friend visiting from out of town who was already waking up at 4 am to get the day started. I asked him why he woke up so early to which he explained how the extra time in the morning gave him the opportunity to start his day the way he wanted to and get work done without interruption.

Being a mom, wife, and business owner, I can see how easy it is for me to get interrupted out of my flow state to handle requests, tasks, meetings, and general demands from life. My friend asked if I wanted to join in the 4 am wake-up time to get the day started.

Little did I realize waking up at 4 am would change my life.
