Silent

Her scream was loud. It was so loud it shattered every window, every mirror. It was so loud and filled with so much pain it tore through the ground, uprooting every tree and bush. It rerouted streams and rivers, flattened mountains, and caused the flatlands to rise.

It was a scream of such sorrow and pain, people would forever feel its anguish.

Yet, it was silent.

No sound escaped her lips.

The cry of her heart was silent. Her tears flowed endlessly from the well deep in her tattered soul.

She was completely shattered. Would she ever be whole again?

Her heart grew cold. Her tears froze as they rolled down her cheeks. All heat and warmth ceased.

The pain she carried laid the foundation for future wars and strife between neighboring peoples. She retreated so far into herself that no amount of prayer or sacrifices could stir her from whence she had gone.

It seemed Mother Earth had died.

Darkness covered the earth. Generations passed, no one could say for sure how many.

So cold.

Soon, many forgot why it was so dark and so cold, which made the pain so much worse.

Would anyone figure it out? Would anyone even try?

It seemed the darkness would go on forever.
