There are so many new articles floating around on my recommendation page saying how many of the top writers, like Lilly White are leaving. There has been a swirl around here making people uncertain if continuing as a writer here is reliable or not?

Medium has provided more than thousands of people an actual medium to speak for themselves, to educate others, to let it out, explore their creativity and so much more.

Top writers might be having their own reasons. Possibly some better opportunities rose according to them that pulled them in. They might be getting short on time to continue. Who knows? Right!

So why you should continue?

There are so many more reasons to be here on medium. Regardless of the financial support that comes as a bonus being here. The most important cause to be here is to just say it all, put it out there and develop as a writer.

1. Sense of connection

Every new “follower” you’ll have, is going to seem like a friend more than a follower. This is the biggest plus for being here on medium.

Imagine this — someone found your article — left a comment — clapped or even followed you. What next? You are going to — open their profile — check out their articles and high chances are that you’re going to like those articles as well.

So, what just happened? You read someone’s thoughts presented in the form of an article, you related to it, you know how the person thinks and you liked it, more than knowing this person, you like them.

So instead of being a follower to each other, you are friends with them.

2. Sense of community

This is not a hidden secret here on medium. Initially, there can be hiccups in your journey but as you grow, even at 55 followers only, the mutual support, understanding and love that you receive are unmatchable.

You are surrounded by people with high intellect and who are open to learning new things, people who listen. There is a higher chance to connect with others easily. We grow together as a community here.

3. Doing it just for the love of writing

A writer’s biggest power is his words. Words that need to come out, a story that needs to be told. We cannot give up on a platform that provides us with the medium to be who we actually want to be.

It keeps us sane, providing us the clarity of thoughts that we need. We can not give up on this feeling most certainly. Can we?

Conclusion

There may be times when the situation may seem unlikely but we must stick to our reasons to be here. An external stimulus should not be able to stray us from our reasons. Your focus and determination will lead you there. Who knows, you could be the next top writer now.

You keep doing it.
