When we were born, we were full of joy and creativity. We were happy all the time, no matter what. Love and happiness was our default nature. We lived in the moment and were all connected to our divine source.

But as we grew up, we were taught the rules of the society and culture. Our environment shaped our beliefs. Our true nature of joy and happiness was over written by the chaos and fears of the real world. Our love based thinking was buried deep down by the fear based thinking of the people around us. We were taught to follow our mind instead of following our heart.

Today, just observe the people around you, and you will find that they are all running in a race that will never end. People are not operating from their hearts. They are operating according to the rules of society because of fear based thinking.

When you were a child, you were taught that this is good and that is bad. Your parents and elders instructed you to do certain things that will make them happy and make you appear good. If you don’t do it, you would be considered as a bad boy. So, from our childhood, we were taught about these distinctions and we started seeking approval for right and wrong. This reminds me of my friend Jack.

When Jack was pursuing his Law degree, he fell in love with Christina, a beautiful young girl who was in the same college. They both loved each other and decided to get married after college was over.

But Jack’s family pressurised him to go build a career. And eventually, Jack moved abroad for further studies in Law and had to settle there. Christina got married to someone else. Both Jack and Christina lived with regret throughout their lives.

After several years, Jack was back in the same city, and he inquired about Christina. He found that Christina was lonely as her husband had died last year and her children were living abroad. They decided to live the final years of their life together.

Suddenly, after two days, Christina had a heart attack, and she also died. Jack was so depressed at the thought that he could have lived with Christina for his entire life if he had not fallen into the trap of society.

He realised that instead of following his mind, if he had followed his heart, life would have been completely different for him. He chose society’s fear based thinking instead of his heart’s love based thinking. And he suffered his entire life.

Your heart always knows the answer. It always knows what is good for you.

As Lao Tzu said,

At the center of your being you have the answer; you know who you are and you know what you want.

So, today ask yourself what is it that you really want, what is it that you truly desire. Go after it.

You just have one life. Live it well. Do not worry about what others will think. No matter what you do, some people are never going to like it. Society’s rules are all bullshit. Never worry about that. Just choose your love based thinking, believe in yourself, follow your heart and go after what you truly desire.
