How a hobby turned into a life tool.

Hiking Is a Place to Escape Modern Distractions

Internet and cell phones used to be an option, but we now live in a world where you can't get a dinner reservation without a phone. As a result, it's hard to give ourselves free time without distractions. Hiking allows you to completely disconnect and have time to process any thoughts that have been distracted from technology.

Hiking is Good for Your Physical and Mental Health

The entire article could be about all of the benefits I had physically and mentally from hiking. A study on young Australians during the pandemic showed that those who increased their time in nature were 51% less likely to struggle mentally.

Hiking Has an Amazing Community

The hiking community is a beautiful thing. People from all religions, nationalities and political views can be on the trials. If you ever found yourself hiking the 2,190-mile Appalachian trail, you may encounter "trail magic." I know what you're thinking.

No, Chris Angel doesn't hide in the bushes and surprise you with an insane magic trick. A simple way to describe "trail magic" is random strangers supporting your journey with free meals, rides, and other acts of kindness to help you complete the massive journey.

You Will Sleep Better

Sleep makes life better. Who wants to argue against that? If I don't sleep well, I know I'll have issues throughout the day. I don't think any of us want to end up like Christain Bale in The Machinist.

According to a 12-week study done with middle-aged to older adults, those who practice moderate-intensity aerobic exercise will see improvements in their sleep.

Hiking will also force you to spend time without your phone, which is more great news for your sleep. Cell phones have been linked to disrupting melatonin production needed for good sleep.

Final Thoughts

Hiking is a simple and cost-effective way to improve your life. You will make new friends and experience destinations that don't have roads, only paths. You will appreciate nature a little more and feel a sense of relief that only comes with being in the woods.
