Interpreting other Blogs Findings on Self-Motivation & Importance

How to Stay Insanely Self-Motivated, According to Science, written by Elle Kaplan, is a blogpost that provided interesting insights on how to accurately self-motivate oneself through a specific step-by-step process.

Her interpretation of self-motivation is based on the following:

  1. Begin by being specific and making it a challenge
  2. Own it
  3. Celebrate the little wins
  4. Reap the rewards
  5. Be accountable

These ideas are very applicable to many people in various settings. Many of us make the decision to take on tasks that sometimes may be denoted as “out of our reach”. Therefore, we should definitely set reasonable goals that will be easily accomplished as long as we put our minds to it.

No matter what challenges arise, we should always remain focused and be optimally playing to our strengths in order to be at our best. This is an essential self-motivating factor that contributes to our success as mentioned in her blog.

One of the ideas that she implemented in which I agree with is when she says “Having control and ownership of what we are doing makes us more motivated to actually do it” (Kaplan). I completely agree that when we are confident in what we are capable of accomplishing, we will be able to execute it 100%. We push ourselves on a daily basis to be improve ourselves and by optimistically tackling the conflicts that arise, we can learn certain techniques or methods to correctly do them.

Another interesting point that Kaplan exploits is when she says “According to the American Psychological Association, people who set goals that are both specific and challenging, are 90% more likely to achieve what they’ve set their mind to”. We need challenges to make improvements on ourselves and we should always be committed to performing our best. I really hope to apply these ideas, especially the step-by-step process that Ellen Kaplan had suggested in an academic and workplace retrospect.

Sherry Starns, another popular blogger, explains various reasons as to why it is important to have self-motivation and its need in our lives.

It is important because:

“It pushes you to achieve your goals, feel more fulfilled and improve overall quality of life” (Sherry Starnes, 2015)

“It will help you change your thoughts, mindset, and life” (Starnes).

“The journey of exploring new ideas and gaining new information, knowledge will continue with you” (Starnes).

“Self motivation is a good way to develop a proper mindset that allows you to be a sensible person and deal with various situations effectively and efficiently” (Starns).

We also need it to push us to work hard for what we want especially in a workplace or business setting
