To build a car that honored the Tour de France — a legendary endurance road race for cars (not the bicycle race) — and improved upon the performance of the F12 Berlinetta, Ferrari knew it had to up its game.

And that’s exactly what it did with the 2017 Ferrari F12tdf.

Fortunately for bidders (both present and online) at RM Sotheby’s 2018 Scottsdale auction on Thursday, January 18, they had the opportunity to bid on this beautiful machine. The Ferrari, with its “Extra Campionario” Azzurro La Plata Livrea livery and a tri-color Blu, Bianco and Rosso stripe, ultimately hammered for $1,325,000.

Only 799 of the model were produced and they were reserved for Ferrari’s best customers. The F12tdf builds upon the hugely popular and powerful F12 Berlinetta. Its horsepower registers at 769 bhp, an increase of 39 bhp from the Berlinetta, while dropping 242 lbs. Its upgrade in power allows the F12tdf to reach 62 mph from 0 in just 2.9 seconds. To reach 124 mph, tack on only five additional seconds.

The 2017 Ferrari F12tdf pays homage to the Ferraris of the 1950s and 1960s that dominated the Tour de France, specifically the 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta that won the ’56 event. This specific F12tdf features hand-painted Scuderia Ferrari fender shields and carries the same blue shade (“Extra Campionario” Azzurro La Plata Livrea) that the winning Berlinetta sported.

The first owner ensured the F12tdf was outfitted with all the bells and whistles, selecting most of the options available, including the Ferrari’s factory Atelier and Tailor Made program.

According to the vehicle’s description on RM Sotheby’s website, “the interior is equally lavish, trimmed in Alcantara with countless carbon fiber accents featured throughout. The carbon fiber options alone total approximately $39,00. An additional $46,673 of ‘other options’ are also specified on the window sticker; presumably much of that cost covers the custom Tdf livery.”

The F12tdf has logged less than 200 miles after being delivered new to Ferrari of San Diego.

This supercar is at home both on the road and the track, and is the fastest, road-legal, front-engined Berlinetta.

It was a true treat to see it in person.
