Today RBS’s shareholders meet in Edinburgh for their AGM.

RBS received one of the lowest scores in our Ethical Scorecard (a rather shameful 7 out of 100). The bank funds a vast array of dubious activities, from destructive new fossil fuels to oppressive regimes across the world.

Its ethics are highly questionable. Since the government has refused to even consider telling the bank to support the environment and British economy, we think you’re better off moving your cash to an institution that will.

Very much in our #fossilfools category for funding climate change, the bank this month showed it does have some sense by joining Deutsche Bank and HSBC in announcing that they will not finance the Abbot Point coal port expansion in Australia’s precious Great Barrier Reef.

To help relegate climate change investment to the history books, today we are joining the World Development Movement (WDM) to call on the UK’s high street banks to stop financing coal mining forever.

Tell RBS to stop funding destructive coal mines.

RBS Group, which includes Natwest, has put over £4bn in to destructive coal mining companies since 2005 — more than any other UK bank.

RBS has invested in huge coal mining corporations including BHP Billiton, Glencore-Xstrata, Rio Tinto and Anglo American. These corporations are helping to keep the world hooked on highly polluting coal whilst poor communities are hit hard by mining.

Please take action to stop RBS bankrolling coal mining.

From Colombia to Indonesia, people have resisted these corporations from devastating their land and communities. Join us to stand in solidarity with the communities affected by destructive coal mines.

Then, if you’re concerned about climate change and your cash being invested in fossil fuels, open a bank account somewhere else!
