Vicarious

Building Artificial General Intelligence (human-like intelligence). Backed by Elon Musk, Vinod Kholsa and Mark Zuckerberg.

Problem

  1. Machines can never achieve "true" intelligence or human-level intelligence without the capacity for imagination.
  2. Most for-profit businesses in the A.I. industry concentrate on optimizing shareholder wealth and finding applications for technology (e.g. applying deep learning to medical imaging and diagnostics) rather than creating technological advancements.

Solution

Vicarious is building a system that learns faster than other AI methods by taking advantage of human’s most important asset: imagination. It combines insights from generative probabilistic models and systems neuroscience to create machines that train faster, adapt more readily, and generalize more broadly than AI approaches commonly used today.

In the interest of prioritizing transformative technological advancements over shareholder growth, Vicarious prioritizes both research and software development. It is also incorporated as a Flexible Purpose Corporation in order to ground their efforts in a legal framework that captures the guiding moral principles of their work.
