Are you ready to play a game of truth or dare? Well actually, Garrett Wood just likes to play dare! Do you #daretomove?
Meet G. She’s one of our awesome instructors that our Movers just can’t get enough of. Her high energy and passion to move is contagious. She believes in helping people find their inner strength, push their limits and see what they are capable of.
We were dying to know more about G, her journey to being a badass Barry’s Bootcamp instructor, and even some fun facts like her childhood nickname (can you guess what it could be?)
Let’s do a quick fire round…1, 2, 3…..GO!

Ok, now let’s get personal! We want to know all the details, so don’t hold back!
When did you know you wanted to become an instructor?
Age 15, after my first kickboxing class. The class left me drenched in sweat. The instructor had us doing things I didn’t think I was capable of — insane amounts of roundhouse kicks, squatting low for way longer than I knew I could hold it and doing a ton of tough cardio moves like quick feet and tuck jumps. I left there feeling empowered and unstoppable. I kept going back and was inspired to get over my fear of taking a spin class. Flash forward and I’d achieved some of my weight loss goals and wanted to keep setting more goals! From that point on I knew I wanted to help others learn how to achieve that hardworking feeling, and then become addicted so that the exercise molds into their lifestyle!
Who inspires or motivates you the most?
My clients, my coworkers at Barry’s and my boyfriend.
What does your pre and post workout regimen look like?
Pre-workout drink (+100MG caffeine with beta alanine! Or a LOT of coffee). Post — a meal like breakfast or dinner or a protein shake or bar if on-the-go.
If you had to describe yourself in 3 words, what would they be?
Strong, powerful, & determined.
Any good book recommendations you suggest?
I love history books, and those would bore people. My favorite book of the past year has been “Art of a Memoir” because I’m writing one.
What got you most excited about MoveWith?
Being able to reach clients in Ohio from back in college and Indiana from where I grew up. My mom is even using it. :)
What is your greatest accomplishment? Career or personal.
Not giving up on Boston (I moved here for a job that later fired me) and starting my own business along the way.
What is the toughest hurdle you have had to overcome in your career?
As a business owner you’re constantly in unknown territory, the biggest hurdle has been pushing myself to keep going when you have no clue what you’re doing.
What does your perfect day look like?
Being outside 95% of it.
In the winters, I usually start my day with a 5 am wake up and hike in Snowmass Colorado for an hour. Come home, eat, then ski from 9 to 1, eat, then ski from 2 to 4, then snack, walk the dog, maybe snow-skate outside then bedtime :)
In the summer, it’s wake-up and run outside, then do some bodyweight exercises. Wakeboard or fish, then eat/layout, swim and maybe go out in the afternoon to wakeboard or fish, and then take an evening walk.
Ya, we couldn’t finish without some fun ones!
What is your hidden talent?
I’m a semi-decent baker. I can walk on my hands.
What is your guilty pleasure?
Binge watching TV shows. Recently watched Handmaid’s Tail and Gypsy. Both were very dark and interesting … and addicting! I love great stories! On the regular, I stick to Nashville and The Mindy project, those have been my faves for years!
Eating BIG breakfasts. My big breakfasts begin at 3:30am when I wake-up for Barry’s most days of the week with either oats with egg whites or a tbsp of peanut butter (basically I dip the spoon in) with flax seeds! Then I grab a shake at Barry’s or make one at home and have 1 or 2 eggs, or more oatmeal or veggies like roasted carrots if I’m going to go lift later on.
Naps. (us too!)
What is your favorite superhero and why?
My mom. She’s always there! She’s powerful! She taught me everything!
What is was your childhood nickname?
G.Wood or Gare-bear
What is the strangest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Probably beef tartare or alligator burgers.
If you could trade places with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
Can I pick 3? Too hard to say just one! It would be a ski instructor, an actress (Blake Lively?), someone at a big tech company like Facebook.
