Mental Health Awareness
May is Mental Health Awareness Month worldwide, and next week is Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK — so what better time to explore some of the brands and creatives lending their voices to this excellent cause.
It’s no secret that for many, mental health has been a struggle over the past year. And since many of us have also spent this year consuming more online media than ever before (up by a third on previous years according to Ofcom), it seems fitting that more brands than ever are signing up to raise awareness, creating content that champions mental health awareness in their particular fields.
During this pandemic, millions of us have experienced a mental health problem, or seen a loved one struggle. And we’ve seen that the support we all need just isn’t out there.
For them, for us and for you — we must take this chance to step up the fight for mental health. That means fighting for change, for fairness, for respect and for life-changing support. — Mind UK
May is internationally celebrated as Mental Health Awareness Month, while here in the UK Mental Health Awareness Week is 10th-16th of May, so we’re ready to pick some of our favourite content from these campaigns. Mind UK are hosting their own conversation around mental health on their social media channels, asking participants to ‘Share why you’re fighting for mental health’ with the hashtags #MHAW and #FightForMH .

#Tools4Founders
Although not advertising per say, the #Tools4Founders Campaign has been making waves this month. Laura Shook Guzman, and entrepreneurial psychotherapist, is on a mission to raise awareness of mental health in the workplace. “We live in a culture that glorifies the grind, and Founders can feel like they can’t tell anyone what’s going on because they have to manage impressions.” Laura’s campaign is particularly prevelant in the creative industries, where burnout and stress can be even more intense.
NFL, with Mental Health America
From Media to Sport, this month the NFL are also getting involved, showcasing their commitment to mental health.
This May, NFL players will share the ways they take care of their mental health and emotional wellbeing. For more information or to seek help: www.mhanational.org — NFL
And now for something completely different…
Papa Roach
It’s not all brands — bands are also highlighting the importance of these campaigns with new media too. This week Papa Roach released a new lyric video of “Help (Aelonia Remix)” to celebrate the importance of Mental Health Awareness Month.
‘The visual brings attention to the song’s vulnerable message, showing the importance of knowing when you need to help and having the strength to ask for it.’ -Blabbermouth
(Not quite the ‘nature’ theme of MHAW, but excellent none the less)
