’96 — Undying love
This is one of those movies that I would ask you not to watch but secretly wish that you did watch.
Whether you have experienced heartbreak or you broke someone’s heart or you are still safely away from “love”, this movie will reveal something impactful to you.
It is one of those rare gems that conveys feelings without any song. I wish this masterpiece is left untouched and not remade by Bollywood for monetary gains.
After watching the movie yesterday night, I slept longer than usual and even after waking up, my mind continued to process the movie. The emotions in the movie still lingered in my mind.
This movie is like that beautiful poem having 4 lines in each stanza. You enjoy it until you come to the last stanza that has only 3 lines. This drives you crazy because your mind tries to come up with the best line to fit into this stanza to complete it for its own peace of mind but your heart knows that the last stanza is perfect and as it should be.
This movie is a good example of positive experience (i.e., I liked the movie) after having positive bias towards the movie due to its good rating and due to having my favorite actor in the lead role. I have been immensely impressed by Vijay Sethupati in the movies Super Deluxe and Vikram Vedha.
You may watch the Hindi dubbed version of ’96 on YouTube which is a decent dubbing. However, first 7 minutes of the movie are missing from this Hindi version. This initial 7 minutes, which is basically a nice song with good visuals, you can watch on MxPlayer in Tamil. But if you can understand Tamil then you can watch the whole movie for free on MxPlayer.
