Teenage is a difficult time for many as it is perhaps the most crucial yet conflicting phase of our formative years. And if you suffer a personal tragedy then it only gets worse. In such a scenario, even parents are not sure how to interact with their child and to make them feel happy and comfortable. Hence, both parents and teenagers must understand this and keep a communication channel open at all times to sail through the challenging phase of teenage years.

The movie Searching is about a widower father who traces the whereabouts of his missing daughter using social media and other online tools. The context of the relationship between the father and daughter is set-up very well. This builds a strong foundation on which the secrets of the missing daughter’s life is gradually revealed during the investigation. The revelation of the fate of the daughter at the end of the movie, and what actually happened with her, is not easily predictable. It also teaches us, as a parent and as a teenager, to be more interactive and involved in each other’s lives so that you can be each other’s emotional support for dealing with any conflicts and disturbances in each other’s lives.

The movie is completely shot through web-cams and other cams, hence it feels like we’re watching a live footage of some case and its investigation. This is an interesting experience for someone who hasn’t watched a movie of this kind. Last year I watched two such movies, both were suspense thrillers: C U Soon (Malayalam movie on Amazon Prime) and The Gone Game (Hindi mini-series on Voot). Both were also well-made movies with enough suspense to keep you hooked.

You may watch Searching on Netflix. It is not a must-watch but you won’t be disappointed. And if you have a kid in their teenage or pre-teens, watch it with them.
