A 9+ rating on BookMyShow and 100+ crore box office collections, along with Raj Shetty being associated with the movie, made me curious about this movie. My college friend and his wife also suggested it to us based on their fun experience at the cinema hall, even though they watched it with subtitles because this movie isn’t available in Hindi.

As we had been warned that the movie takes time to take off, we enjoyed the initial 20 minutes or so in which the characters and their relationship dynamics were shown through a wedding scenario. The movie then takes an interesting turn when everyone believes that a long-deceased spirit of a villager from a neighboring village has possessed a young man. This is where the movie takes off and delivers some genuinely natural laugh-out-loud moments along with some emotional punches. A long-suffering character in the movie finally gets justice, which ends the movie on an emotional but satisfying note.

I enjoyed the movie from the start, as I got a glimpse into the lives of local folks, such as how they behave with each other and their reputation in society. The variety of characters in the movie enables amusement in the most mundane life situations. The horror aspect is smartly used to create humor that also reveals people’s naivete and ignorance.

This is the only comedy Kannada movie I’ve watched and enjoyed. The slow pace of village life with situational comedy makes it a delightful watch for anyone looking for a weekend family entertainer. The only caveat is that it is only available in Kannada on Jio Hotstar, so you’ll have to read the subtitles. The small effort of reading is worth the entertainment.
