Blade Runner

“Blade Runner” (1982) is a classic Sci-Fi film from the 80’s about the future. In film the year is 2019, where there are flying cars and human looking robots called “Replicants”. The film was directed by Ridley Scott, known mostly for the “Aliens” franchise. Ridley Scott is known for his peculiar films where they’re not just Sci-Fi, but, they also have this mix of uncanny thrill with a lot of pauses and loud noises for no reason.

I mention “Blade Runner” mostly because you really cannot go see “Blade Runner 2049” without seeing the original. It is to mostly understand the Blade Runner world, and to understand and know the difference between actual humans and “Replicants”, and also how the characters from the original are connected with “Blade Runner 2049”. Mainly, the story above all else is important because the original is very unusual when it comes to Sci-Fi, especially a film from the 80’s. Once you understand the story you can comprehend what in the hell is going on in “Blade Runner 2049”.

Blade Runner 2049

“Blade Runner 2049”, directed by Denis Villeneueve, is a gripping Sci-Fi film with a very original story which also explains some of the plots of “Blade Runner”, with a mixture of thrill and suspense. The film stars Ryan Gosling who undertakes the role of LAPD Officer K, or in other words, a Blade Runner, who is in fact a “Replicant” who has the exact same job as Harrison Ford’s character in the original film.

Ryan Gosling as Officer K

Ryan Gosling does a great job of playing a character who isn’t human, but who has actual human feelings. “Replicants” actually do have human feelings, but you can still see the non-human side of him. The rest of the cast was great with Dave Bautista, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, and, at last, Harrison Ford. Now, when you are watching this two hour and forty-four-minute film, and you are sitting there, like I was thinking, “Where in the hell is Harrison Ford?” well, he shows up about forty-five-minutes or so left in the film.

Blade Runner

The special effects in the 1982 “Blade Runner” of the flying cars and futuristic world were actually pretty good. Now, in 2017, we are far more advanced so the special effects of “Blade Runner 2049” are stunning. I was blown away, unlike the original that had a bit too much of everything. The sequel felt more spaced out with the environment.

The story was pretty easy to follow seeing as how each scene was connected, and very entertaining due to the thrills and action throughout the film. It also makes me think, with so much pause in each scene that the actor did not really have a lot of lines to memorize.

Overall, it is a must-see film, principally if you have seen the original film and loved it! As for those who have not, then you will still be entertained, but I highly recommend that you watch “Blade Runner” so you can truly enjoy and understand “Blade Runner 2049”.

I rate this movie: Fucking Great!
