Good Design, Bad Design

Here’s six totally random examples of good and bad design:

Good Design

  1. The Louvre
Simple yet vexing, the Louvre entrance pyramid is both a functional marker and abstract art piece all in itself.

2. Netflix

One of the first media apps to perfectly sync across multiple screens without all the hassle of having to call Comcast.

3. Starbucks Coffee Cups

Iconic as the Campbell’s soup can, with fun seasonal themes. The cool logo lets everyone know you just bought something from Starbucks.

Bad Design

  1. Apple Maps
Doomed from the start, and worse than a Google Maps clone. iPhone users had the brief dilemma of whether or not they wanted two navigation apps on their home screen. At least the initial icon was hilarious.

2. Barnes & Noble

The “Maybe-Amazon-Is-Overcharging-Me-On-This-Book” website seems like it’s trying too hard to play catch-up while it tries to establish its own niche in the online bookstore space.

3. Humans

Slow firmware updates, frequent bugs, compatibility issues, and tendency to shut down twice a week. Is it time to abandon carbon-based living and upgrade to the next paradigm?
