Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Recap: Episode Seven is in my own opinion the worst Star Wars film in the franchise! Mostly because it was totally the opposite of the past 6 unique films. Episode Seven is literally a homework assignment copied down and changed by a fraction from Episode Four “The Last Hope”. The only thing that the writers did was make the lead hero into a female and make the Death Star into a planet. The film was far from unique. Luke was useless as usual, leaving Han and Leia doing all the work!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Episode Eight, “The Last Jedi”, was very disappointing! I ironically wore a shirt that says “The Empire Strikes Back”, knowing deep down this film was going to be exactly like Episode Five, “The Empire Strikes Back”. We have the main hero on the search for the legendary Master Jedi, whom at first wishes not to train the young Jedi, and a X-Wing under water. Sound pretty familiar so far? Well, you would say I am describing Episode Five, but I’m actually describing Episode Eight. The battle on land which was covered by snow, was won by Luke, again, and Leia gets away in time on the Millennium Falcon, again. It all sounds too familiar, and that’s because half of Episode Eight was plagiarized.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

Episode Eight frankly could use a re-do because the story was all over the place. The film should have focused more on Luke, hint the title of the film, yet Luke became more of a background character, as if he did not matter what so ever.

The writers focused too much on Rey and Kylo Ren and totally forgot about their training and rules. For Example, let’s take a closer look at Kylo Ren’s name. What does it lack? The title of “Darth”. Every Sith Lord had the title of Darth, not Kylo, which brings me to the fact that he has not completed his true path into the dark side. This, of course, points out that he truly could still turn to the light. Let’s also not forget the rule of two. Unless it only applied while the Emperor was alive, there always has been two Sith lords, a master, and an apprentice.

As for Rey, she still lacks a lot of training. Obviously, the force is strong in her, but she is still not a Jedi. Daisy Ridley’s acting is still terrible. It is still unclear to me how she landed the role. As for Rey’s origin, it is still blurry, which leads me to believe the writers don’t know which story to copy from, between Anakin’s origin or Luke’s, hint the twin part!

As for the rest of the cast, they were just all over the place. The story really did not help so honestly, it was truly not their fault. The story was written as if the writers did not know where they were going with it, so to keep us seated for two hours they grabbed a bunch of random characters and started throwing them across the galaxy. This created opportunities for people to be part of the Star Wars franchise, and not a good story.

(Spoiler)

Supreme Leader Snoke’s death was the most pointless scene, and what a waste of a villain!

(End of Spoiler)

The action was the only positive thing in the film, especially when Luke started to act like a true master Jedi which did not last long, typical Luke. Leia’s scenes were great, the force is strong in her, and she even reminded me of what Yoda said in “The Empire Strikes Back”. When Luke left to rescue his friends, Obi-Wan said: “That boy is our last Hope” and Yoda replied: “No, there is another”. BB-8 has pretty much stolen R2-D2’s spot which means the writers are trying to retire the character or slowly push him out of the franchise. R2-D2 is getting less and less screen time with each film.

The originals were fantastic. Episode Five, in my opinion, is the best Star Wars film. The prequels were great, unique, and Episode Three to this day has the best lightsaber fight scene. The new generation, now that we can include Episode Eight, following the disaster of Episode Seven, was a total disappointment. Overall, the film leads me to believe that there is no hope for Episode Nine!

I rate this movie: Fucking Horrible!
