So, we watched Aliens again…

Wow, it’s amazing how our ability to predict the future is all out of goose.

Aliens is set around 2120, and we have Massive space stations with artificial non-rotating gravity, but huge CRT green screen computers.
Video calling, but you have to enter the specific plastic card of the person you want to call into the machine. Do you have to carry them all around with you? About 5 of them would be thicker than a pack of cards!
Big flat-screen table-top monitors (in the scene where they’re looking at the plans of the plant), but you have to navigate using a daft and massive joystick controller. It’s surprising how touch-screen scrolling and pinch, drag etc were not completely obvious at the time.
Chain smoking in the office! Smoking onboard spacecraft! Smoking cigars in the cryosleep pods!
Everything still looked spanking though, and apart from a couple of establishing shots in deep space (and a couple of hair cuts), didn’t look dated at all. It must be almost 30 years old!
Still a very enjoyable film
