Documenting Our Journey to the 2025 Busan International Short Film Festival × MovieBloc

--

On April 24, 2025, MovieBloc launched a special two-week online screening (April 24 — May 6) in collaboration with the Busan International Short Film Festival (BISFF).
It was designed for those who couldn’t be there in person but still wanted to experience the world of short films.

And the very next day, on April 25, the MovieBloc team headed to Busan to attend the festival in person!

The Scene We Stepped Into

Busan’s sea breeze was still chilly, but the festival was burning with energy.
From films of all kinds and colors to open-air screenings, roundtables, and GV sessions —
the entire city seemed to be in conversation with cinema.
Films were being shown, audiences reacted, and creators responded right back.

We wanted to capture this atmosphere as vividly as possible.
Through MovieBloc’s official Twitter and Instagram Stories, we shared the emotions of the moment in real time —
hoping each post would serve as a small bridge between the screen and its audience.

The Connections We Made

This was far more than just a field visit.
It was a dense schedule of strategic meetings and meaningful networking.

  • In-depth talks with the BISFF team about film acquisition and potential programming collaborations
  • Partnership discussions with AFiS (Busan Asian Film School), including access to a network of 155 graduate films
  • Global connections at “Colombia Night”, where we met key players in Latin American cinema
  • A meeting with the French Courant 3D Short Film Festival to explore co-programming opportunities

The words “acquisition” or “partnership” may sound corporate,
but behind them lies a sincere desire to connect one story to another.

The Films That Spoke to Us

We encountered so many memorable short films during the festival.

🎞 The Lion That Didn’t Cry
🎞 Baby!
🎞 Mid-July
🎞 When the Sun Rises, I Keep on Living
🎞 House on the Other Side (a short film tied to an upcoming feature)

Each one felt like a life compressed into minutes —
some spoke through silence more than rhythm, others through feeling rather than plot.

We hope those emotional vibrations can continue through the MovieBloc platform.
That’s why we actively reached out to the filmmakers to explore distribution and potential screenings.

What It Means to Exist as MovieBloc

Even after a festival ends, the stories shouldn’t.
We’re constantly thinking about how to extend that emotional connection from offline to online.

  • For the audience, it’s a second chance to discover a story they missed
  • For the creator, it’s an opportunity to reach new audiences with a small but mighty film

MovieBloc exists in that in-between space —
as a curator, a platform, and a bridge that helps powerful stories travel farther.

Over the course of four days in Busan, we met countless people and listened to countless stories.
And each of those stories will now live on in how we curate, screen, and make choices going forward.

A short film may be brief — but it never fades.
And we’re here to ensure these unforgettable stories reach even more people.

🎥 Now, it’s time for your story.
