Quentin Tarantino has been busy these last few weeks making the rounds to promote the novelization of his 2019 hit, Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood. During an engaging and enthusiastic two-hour conversation on movie podcast The Big Picture, Tarantino revealed that he’s written a stage play version of Hollywood.

“I wanted to write a play, and stuff that’s not in the book…I wanted it to exist as a play. And again, I’m able to explore stuff that’s not in the [movie].”

Tarantino went on to reveal that the stage play would focus on Italy, in particular, and Rick Dalton’s meetings with Sergio Corbucci that would end up being the deciding factor on whether Dalton went on to become spaghetti western star Nebraska Jim.

Does this mean Cliff Booth would be absent from the play? What about Sharon Tate? The avenues Tarantino could explore with a stage play — to add on to the explorations he’s already done with the novel — is a tantalizing proposition.

Will the play actually happen though? Tarantino often expresses his interest in taking on projects that never come to fruition, but of the stage play, Tarantino said: “I mean, we’ll see what happens, but my plan is to do the book — I just did this — then finish the cinema book, then the next thing on the list is to start thinking about the play.”

Absent from his list, however, are any plans regarding his final film. “I’m not going to think about the last movie for a while. I’m doing other things right now,” said Tarantino.

While it sounds like it could be years before we get any news regarding what Tarantino plans to do for his last film, he confirmed that he’s not through with the film version of Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood just yet.

When asked about whether he would consider turning Hollywood into an extended miniseries, similar to how he did with Hateful Eight on Netflix, Tarantino said: “I think what I would more than likely do is just cut together a version of Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood if I wasn’t worried about time.”

The extended cut would not be segmented into episodes, he confirmed, but would likely receive a limited theatrical run.
