‘Dream Scenario’ Falls Flat

A great premise that misses the landing.

Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage) is a professor at a local college and a seemingly normal guy who begins appearing in people’s dreams. When those dreams turn to nightmares, Paul’s life is forever changed.

I had been wanting to watch Dream Scenario since it came out last year. Nic Cage in an A24 movie? Yes, please! That sounds like the perfect recipe for a fun movie-going experience.

The premise of Dream Scenario is great! This is such a fun and inventive idea. How would you react if you were suddenly in millions of people’s dreams? This isn’t something I would’ve ever thought about without this movie.

Throughout the film, we are also taken into people’s dreams, which are interesting and inventive. It’s really impressive that Dream Scenario is able to recreate the weirdness of our dreams and hilariously (and sometimes terrifyingly) insert Nicolas Cage into them.

I almost wish that this movie had taken a page out of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and just had Nic Cage playing himself. That might’ve been even more fun.
