Another road movie in which the personages have lost their way — this time it’s a caravan of 19th-century pioneers. Just like in her preceding movies, the people in movement are having difficulties to find the way to reach their goal: the movie ends before they do so.
As often in Reichardt’s movies, the landscape plays the role of a primary character, and almost nothing is said about the background of the personages.
