10 Tips to Record your Pre-Recorded Videos & LIVE classes

Teaching online classes is new to many fitness & yoga instructors. As an online yoga and fitness platform offering on-demand videos, LIVE classes and Replays we wanted to share a few tips to make instructors’ life EASIER!

  • Music: Feel free to use music but make sure the volume is low enough that the viewers can hear your instructions.
  • Background noise: Pets, children, outside noise, cell phone and construction can disturb the work-out experience. Make sure your work environment is relatively quiet.
  • Video background: We highly recommend that you film yourself in front of a nice background or plain/uniform background (white background for example) as they do look better from a user perspective.
  • Voice over: Although Voice Over used to be very popular, we tend to notice better results for videos that do not have voice over. Simply recording your voice with a good microphone while you are doing the class is becoming the new norm. Users feel more like they are actually doing the class and the flows are more natural!
  • Light: Your space/studio should be well-lit so that your viewers can see you clearly. The more light the better. Try not to have any light reflexion from a window too.
  • Battery: Make sure your laptop is fully charged on on charged while you teach your LIVE class.
  • Microphone: In order for our viewers to have the best experience possible we recommend that you use a microphone. You can either use a LAV mic or a wireless headset. If you don’t have any microphone make sure the built in microphone from your laptop is loud enough for your viewers to hear you loud and clear even when you are standing a few meters away.
  • Camera: if you do have a professional camera feel free to use it to record your classes. If not, you can either use a webcam or the built in camera from your laptop
  • Screen: You can use a laptop to record your class.
  • Length: Depending on your workout routines we recommend you film/teach classes that are no longer than 1hour. You can also create shorter ones for users that don’t have enough time to complete an hour long workout. However, we’ve seen that online workouts that perform well tend to be around 20–40 min long.

Once all of your devices are connected, go to:
“System Preferences” — > “Sound” — > “Input”, click on “USB Audio Device”
and start speaking in your microphone to test if everything works. If you see the oval shapes next to “Input level” get greyed out, then that means you’re all set!

FYI- you can perform this sound test on any microphone you buy.
