During the holidays, we’re all tempted to ditch our workout routines and promise ourselves to start again as soon as we’re back. However, did you know that exercise stops often lead to “de-training”. In other word, this means that a full workout stop could easily throw away all of your previous efforts and ultimately will make you loose what you’ve work so hard to gain.

Also, exercise can be a valuable tool to get you through the challenges of the holidays. Here are 4 reasons why you SHOULD give yourself the gift of regular exercise.

Holiday Weight Gain

Holidays can often be a high-risk time for weight gain. You usually get to consume more food and alcohol than usual. Maintaining a regular workout schedule can help you burn the calories and maintain muscle mass which sustains metabolic rate.

Holiday Stress

When we say holiday stress we mean arriving on time for your flight, increased food preparation, frequent visitors, but mostly managing finances…! Exercise promotes the release of hormones which ultimately leads to mood improvement and a significant reduce in feelings of anxiety.

Finally, exercising during the holidays can help you keep a more structured schedule and routine. It’s so easy to loose track of time and of your body while you’re away. Plus, we’re all scared stepping on our scales when we head back. Let’s keep up with the exercise and enjoy our well deserved holidays!
