Facilitator orientation at MozFest 2018

This October, thousands of organizers, facilitators, participants, and volunteers will come together in London for MozFest, a celebration and launch pad for the internet health movement.

People from around the world and from myriad backgrounds will gather to share their work in support of internet health and healthier AI as they relate to key issues like:

  • Privacy & security.
  • Openness.
  • Digital inclusion.
  • Web literacy.
  • Decentralization.

As the Internet Health Report puts it:

The Internet is an ecosystem that billions of people depend for their lives and livelihoods. It adapts to our behavior and actions from one end of the globe to another.

We at MozFest want those people to band together for an internet that empowers them to create better lives and a better, safe, equitable, and inclusive world for everyone. We hope that facilitators and participants alike leave MozFest with ideas, practices, and principles they can amplify and replicate with new friends and in their own communities, projects, and workplaces in support of an open internet health, better AI, and a better world.

Just as people power the internet, people power MozFest. The depth and breadth of interests, ideas, and practices they bring each enriches the festival beyond measure. Diversity is essential to the success of both Mozfest and the internet health movement. We want the festival to catalyze collaborations within the internet health movement throughout the year. We want people to come to MozFest with an idea and leave with a community.

If all of us can stay connected, we stand our best chance of safeguarding the internet as a global public resource, open and accessible for all.

To help create and strengthen connections between participants, Mozilla, and the internet health movement, this year we’ll be providing session facilitators with movement-building training as part of our facilitator coaching process.

This new training will focus on making invitations. We will help facilitators make clear invitations to each other’s work and to the movement. We want everyone to leave MozFest with a concrete next step they can take to show up for others and internet health in 2019 and beyond. We know people learn a lot at MozFest; we want to get better at helping them act on what they learn.

These invitations will unlock opportunities to participate in — and contribute to — the internet health movement for people who are unsure of how to get involved or of how to share their talents with others.

By working together in solidarity we’ll achieve more for internet health than any of us ever could alone.

If you’re a MozFest facilitator or if you’re just curious about how to use invitations to you can join us for a training call. You can find links to the calls below:

Follow those links to join the meetings on those dates and times. Email Chad for a calendar invitation if you need one. We’ll record and share these calls for community members who can’t join us live.

We hope you can join us in London and in championing internet health for all throughout the year. Be on the lookout for invitations to join and contribute to the internet health movement and attendees’ projects even if you can’t attend the festival this year.

A healthier, more accessible and just internet and society awaits; it’s vitally important that we find ways to include one another in it and invite one another to build it.
