Mozilla, the global nonprofit devoted to a free and open Internet, is proud to announce Flattr as a Supporting Partner of MozFest, the annual festival devoted to a healthy web.

Flattr is a Swedish micropayment company and platform founded in 2010 by Peter Sunde and Linus Olsson. It enables Internet users to monetarily support their favorite digital content and creators.

In 2016, Flattr joined forces with eyeo — the team behind Adblock Plus — to create a new and improved product that will be launched on October 24, just days before MozFest.

The new Flattr browser add-on works on both Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome (desktop versions) and allows users to reward artists and creators across the Internet who publish videos, blogs, music and more. Flattr users simply allocate a monthly budget and engage with their favorite content — Flattr does the rest.

Says Flattr co-founder Linus Olsson:

“There is a Swedish saying that we use to describe the Flattr philosophy: Många bäckar små blir en stor å, or Many small streams form a large river. Flattr allows digital creators to receive a little from many, rather than a lot from a few. Our aim is to help keep the web open, free and decentralized.”

Says MozFest Executive Director Sarah Allen:

“Flattr’s work and mission — ensuring individual users and artists are empowered online — is deeply aligned with Mozilla and MozFest. We’re excited to have Flattr join us in London.”

Flattr’s generous support fuels one of the world’s leading open Internet events. Their support helps hundreds of technologists, activists, educators and artists to gather in London, swap code and ideas and address big issues like online privacy, digital inclusion and web literacy.

About Flattr

Flattr is a browser add-on that intelligently measures your interaction with content on the websites you visit, and then automatically distributes funds to the sites you engage with. Journalists, artists, bloggers, vloggers and other creators registered with Flattr can make amazing things thanks to these contributions. And contributions support creator sustainability, which keeps online content free.

About Mozilla

The nonprofit Mozilla Foundation believes the Internet must always remain a global public resource that is open and accessible to all. Our work is guided by the Mozilla Manifesto. The direct work of the Mozilla Foundation focuses on fueling the movement for an open Internet. We do this by connecting open Internet leaders with each other and by mobilizing grassroots activists around the world. The Foundation is also the sole shareholder in the Mozilla Corporation, the maker of Firefox and other open source tools. Mozilla Corporation functions as a self-sustaining social enterprise — money earned through its products is reinvested into the organization.
