The ongoing war in Syria is frequently covered in the news. What’s less well known is the cyber war which is also taking place.

Leading news broadcaster Al Jazeera have created an online game and web app called #Hacked which takes players into real life situations in which your decisions have direct consequences.

One of the aims of the game is to educate users about the cyber war, especially how after the Arab Spring the web turned from a tool of liberation to a tool of oppression.

In the game you play the role of a journalist in Syria to write a news report about the cyber war. It’s not that easy, however — there are plenty of people who want to stop you by any means. And they also want to find out who your sources are…

Can you successfully file a report on the cyber war without getting hacked? Can you protect your sources? This may be a game, but for many journalists in dangerous situations, it’s a matter of life and death…

From a demo of the game. You can play it now at syhacked.com
