Session Spotlight — ND Days: exploring neurodiversity
Neurodiversity is a relatively new term which refers to differences in how our brains are “wired”.
ND Days is a 360 degree virtual reality film which explores a range of neurodiverse perspectives such as those of people on the autism spectrum, or those with ADHD. What is little appreciated is that being differently wired can have benefits, and that it is cool to be different. The video is designed to use virtual reality to expose the hidden reality of being different. The use of this advanced technology enables people to be immersed in these different perspectives in a way that top-down storytelling doesn’t manage.
The video has its roots in Project CAPE at the BBC — Creating A Positive Environment. By creating this experience based on empathy, the session will work to help reduce stigma and increase awareness of people who are wired differently. There is a second short film, called ND Mode, which is being displayed as a part of the MozEx art installation. This second film shows a day in the working life of someone whose brain is wired differently from a first person, gaming-style perspective.
Finally the session will ask a challenging question: If you wanted to show your experiences and perception of the world through virtual reality, how would you do it?
The session takes place at 4.30pm in the Youth Zone on the second floor. Be sure not to miss it.
