Blender is a popular and open-source 3D creation software that can be used in 3D printer designs. As we are an open source community and Blender is an open source software, everyone can get their hands on this free software and start creating awesome 3D animations, VFX shots and video editing.

Some of the features of blender —

  • Blender has some of the amazing features such as for development of 3D content the blender provides a wide range of essential tools that includes modelling, rendering, animation & rigging, video editing, VFX, compositing, texturing, and many simulation forms.
  • Blender tool is a cross-platform tool which is developed in collaboration with a uniform OpenGL GUI on all major platforms. It is also customizable with Python scripts.
  • It has high quality 3D architecture that enables fast and efficient creation of workflow.
  • For a comprehensive list of pages, it has active community support, see blender.org/community.
  • Blender allows a wide variety of tasks to be done, and when first attempting to understand the fundamentals, it can seem overwhelming. However, after a few hours of practice, it is possible to familiarize yourself with Blender with a bit of inspiration and the right learning content.
  • It can be said as a weapon, by considering all that Blender can do. And all of that work is only done by just pressing buttons or manipulating brushes. As it is well said that the great artists do not create masterpieces, but by studying and practicing subjects such as human anatomy, composition, lighting, principles of animation, etc greatness can be mastered.

It is a robust program that supports the entire pipeline of 3D creation, which includes modeling, shading, rigging, animation, and rendering.

Building the landscape

Creating a terrain — A terrain can be created by using the displacement modifier in the modifier tab after you subdivide the surface into about 100 cuts.

In the textures panel, select the voronoi texture and increase it’s size. We can get the plane by flipping by 180 degrees.

After flipping the surface looks like rugged terrain like an open field. This surface can be used for adding some materials.

To get a sunrise texture, go to world settings and select sky texture from the color panel. Here, there are lot of options to choose like change sun intensity, elevation, rotation and attitude from surface tab to the right.

Now to add some color and depth on our surface, we head to the shading tab.

Here , there is selection called principle shader. I have used two of them, one having base color green and one brown. These two principle shaders can be mixed by using the mix shader and connect their BSDF to the shader in mix shader.

Next we need to control how these two shaders are mixed. this job is done by adding procedural black and white texture called the noise texture and adjust the values accordingly. This adds depth to our terrain.

It’s time to add grass on our field. I have used a grass model as an object to add over the field from :https://www.patreon.com/file?h=42107331&i=6434378.

We can attach this grass to the surface by using a particle system. Select the landscape, go to the particle properties and add a new particle system. Change the particle mode to hair and increase it’s number. It will look something like this…

Now we head to the render section and render it as a object. In the instance pic the eyedropper tool and select the grass.

Click on the render preview button and there you have it! We have successfully created a 3D grass terrain.

Modifications in the project —

A house can be added amidst the grass field using basic tools like a box and change them by adjusting the size, rotation and relative location of blocks and planks.

I have created a old and grumpy house. I need to add a few more details and need to render it.
