The First Call of the Decade, done and dusted!

Discussing it for the past two days and finally, Mozilla Rep Vishal Das made a poll for when shall we have the next community call for Mozilla Punjab, the first of this Decade. We decided to do it on the weekend, Saturday night at 9.

Starting the community call with Vishal Das on Zoom Cloud Meetings and some other silent members of the group. We began with the new year’s excitement by introducing ourselves with Vishal Das in the first place, then Sanjna Randhawa, 0x48iffy (Anshuman Das), HARSH BAJPAI, Numaan, Manish Virgat and then namanrastogi951 (me) and so on..

After some moments the question-answer portion was initiated with questions from the first-year students like “How to manage our time with both co-curricular activities and college studies?”, “How much time to give to coding?”, Vishal answered these questions by telling us about his journey and how he managed things while he was in the first year. He then further elaborated that in the first year it is much more important to code and learn new tech more than studies but it also depends on one’s personal choice and how comfortable someone is by doing what that person thinks is the need of the hour.

The conversation was further taken forward by Anshuman by arising a question on something that most freshers didn’t know about but will find important for them in the coming years. Anshuman started by asking how can we contribute to open source and what will it benefit us? With this, all the people in the call became a little more attentive and alert. Vishal answered the question by saying, “I love Open Source” to which all the senior Mozillians agreed.

During all this Smile Gupta joined the community call and informed that she won’t be able to talk due to certain reasons. The conversation was then joined by one of the Mozilla organizers Arshdeep Singh who described open source as one of the most important portions of a developer’s life and that how he got to know about it in his 3rd Semester from one of his teachers. Following this were some past experiences of Harsh Bajpai and Manish Virgat with open source.

After completing this discussion, Vishal told us about the events Mozilla Punjab is going to conduct next like the Global Diversity CFP Day which would be done in collaboration with GirlScript Foundation Jalandhar and how Mozilla Punjab will be supporting and encouraging women tech-enthusiast to take more and more interest in the world of. Then we were given the information about the First Anniversary of Mozilla Punjab happening on the 18th of January, 2020. Some additional information about Firefox Account was given to us were we got to know can protect our passwords and other accounts from any online thefts and problems.

With this, the first call of the decade ended with a maximum count of 12 Mozillians and a good amount of healthy discussion about Technology, Events and Life strategies!

Until Next time!
