Thesis: Even though 1984 is a work of literature it has a great influence on people and could be interpreted to have halted the spread of communism in western society, and in this way is connected to history.

1984 is a novel by George Orwell which expresses the flaws of totalitarian government. It was writen in response to the rise of comunism, in an attempt to halt western communist thought. The novel portrays the control that institutions of government can have on its citizens, and the negative effects it may in turn cause. Being published in 1949 it can be interpreted to have had an effect on historical progress, and may have diverted socialist thought from western society.
